You can probably think of a few key things off the top of your head that are no doubt important to pack for a summer holiday. But do you think of all of them while you’re in the actual process of packing your bags?

There are some essentials that can slip anyone’s mind when it comes to getting ready for a holiday. That’s why it’s so important to make a packing list ahead of time and really consider what it is you’ll be needing on your summer holidays in the UK.

So, to help you get started, here is our list of some of the most important things that you should make sure are in your bags when it’s time to head off on your next trip away.

1. Weather-appropriate clothing

We all want to believe that it will be all sunshine and blue skies on our summer holidays, but that won’t always be the case. Especially here in the UK, where we know just how unpredictable the weather can be even in the course of a single day.

So, when you pack your t-shirts, shorts and sundresses, make sure to also bring along things like cardigans, scarves and jackets that you can layer over them if it gets chilly. Even if the days do end up sunny, you might still get caught out by evening chills, especially in areas with coastal breezes that can lower the temperature by a few degrees after dark.

And don’t forget to bring along a hat and sunglasses for the times when the weather is just as bright and warm as hoped.

2. Travel chargers

These are some of the most essential items to bring along on any trip if you don’t want to run the risk of any of your devices running out of charge. If there’s a long journey before you get to your holiday destination, then having a travel charger saves you from having to risk boredom while you try to conserve battery power.

Bringing along a power bank on days when you’re going to be spending plenty of time out in the wilderness is also a good idea. Having a dead phone is the last thing you need  if you’re using it for directions or to snap photos.

3. Sunscreen

Even if you’re planning on spending time in the sun on your holiday to build up your tan, you’ll still need to bring along some sunscreen. Keeping your skin protected is important even if the temperatures don’t feel particularly Mediterranean. Nobody wants to get sunburned on holiday!

Which SPF you bring is up to you, depending on the level of coverage you want, but it’s important to bring some along to help keep your skin healthy and safe. There are plenty of small travel-sized bottles on the shelves throughout the summer, so you should be able to get hold of some easily.

4. A reusable water bottle

Staying properly hydrated is important at any time of the year, but even more so during the warmer months of summer. If you’re planning on spending any amount of time out and about, it’s a great idea to always bring a reusable water bottle with you.

Not only does this save you from having to buy bottles of water throughout your trip, it means you’ll never have to worry about trying to find water when you get hot or thirsty. There are plenty of places that will allow you to fill up a reusable water bottle for free on your travels around the UK.

There are plenty of other important things that will no doubt be going into your bags, but these four are pretty high up on the list of essentials. To make sure you get the most out of your summer holiday, do your best to be prepared for the heat – or a spell of changeable UK weather – and enjoy making some summer memories.
