The changes to PIP will mean that only the most severely disabled will qualify.
Under the changes Claimants will need to score four points in at least one activity to qualify for the daily living allowance.
Millions of people who could work are “trapped on benefits”, Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall has said as she set out the government plans for welfare reform in the House of Commons
She told MP’s the Government will legislate to introduce a “right to try”.
This will mean benefit claimants will be able to seek work without being fearful of losing their financial support.
Kendall also announced that she will abolish the Work Capability Assessment, saying it is often “stressful” for claimants.
The government will reform disability benefits, with numbers claiming PIP “unsustainable”.
The Work and Pension’s Secretary ruled out Tory proposals to replace PIP with vouchers as had long been expected and also confirmed that PIP will not be frozen.
‘Every day there are more than 1000 new PIP awards, that’s the equivalent of having a population the size of Leicester every single year.’ said Kendall
