Bolton Wanderers Boss Ian Evatt hopes his club’s dramatic late win at Exeter can be a turning point for his players as they look to attack League One’s top six in the second half of the season.

Late goals from Aaron Collins and Aaron Morley on his return from a loan spell at Wycombe propelled the Whites to a 2-1 victory at St James’ Park.

Evatt wants his team to build on a fifth away win of the campaign to close the gap on the play-off places with a more consistent run in 2025 after they had bounced back from gifting Exeter an opening goal.

It wasn’t the best start to the new calendar year that Wigan’s Shaun Maloney’s men wanted, as  Athletic fell to a defeat against Birmingham City.

The Sky Bet League One league-leaders prevailed at the Brick Community Stadium following Alfie May’s first-half double and a second-half strike from Willum Willumsson.

Stockport’s second home match in the first four days of 2025 saw them suffer defeat by the odd goal in three at Edgeley Park against Mansfield.

Will Collar scored his fourth goal of the campaign in all competitions, and Ben Hinchliffe saved a penalty, within the space of seven first-half-minutes – but the ‘Stags’ netted both sides of that spell to secure maximum points, extending in the process County’s winless run against them to 10 National and Football League matches.

Hakeeb Adelakun’s first half goal made it six wins in a row for Salford City with a 1-0 victory at MK Dons which has taken them to second place in the League Two table.
