Greater Manchester’s heatwave has come to an abrupt end with flood warning alerts and road closures after more than half a months rain fell on the region in just 24 hours.

The A555 Manchester Airport Relief Road remains closed this morning due to flooding. The closure runs from Chester Road at Woodford, through Gilbent to Styal Road.

Meanwhile Berry Brow at Clayton remains closed this morning due to flooding from the River Medlock and a tree being down in the road which awaits removal.

The Environment Agency had 12 flood warnings in place across the North West on Monday morning and said water levels would continue to rise.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said it had dealt with 116 emergency calls in 24 hours up to 08:00 BST on Monday.
