Violence erupted in Piccadilly Gardens this afternoon as protests continued following the events in Southport on Monday

Hundreds of people descended into Manchester with public transport disrupted and the police bringing in a Section 34 dispersal notice across Manchester City Centre

Two demonstrations, Enough is Enough: Stand up for your country’ and a ‘Stop the far right’ counter demo congregated in the City Centre with police fought to keep the two apart

It was one of a number of demonstrations across the country including Liverpool, Bristol, Blackpool and Belfast

The home secretary also warned that anyone engaging in “unacceptable disorder” would face imprisonment and travel bans amongst other punishments, adding that “sufficient” prison places had been made available.

“Criminal violence and disorder has no place on Britain’s streets,” Yvette Cooper said.

“Police forces have my full support in ensuring that those who engage in criminal disorder face the strongest possible penalties.”
