Realstar Group is the company behind the activity. They’ve launched a new brand to bring this development to market – Manchester is the first city for the new brand with London to follow later in the year.

A revolutionary new rental brand is set to shake up the residential scene in Manchester. UNCLE (www.uncle.co.uk) and its pioneering approach to renting has been unveiled by international property company Realstar Group.

Steeped in Mancunian heritage, Grade II listed Orient House on Granby Road in the City Centre will transform into UNCLE Manchester, the brand’s first development to launch in the UK. With a down-to-earth, straight-talking attitude, the global property company believes that Manchester is the perfect fit for its’ new brand.

As part of its revolutionary approach to renting, UNCLE is promising to put residents first by turning the idea of a traditional landlord on its head.

In a shift from the standard model, UNCLE will own and manage the entire building. They won’t be charging any of the usual fees for moving in.

Live-on-site resident managers are around seven days a week (including evenings and weekends) to show customers around, allowing residents to move in within a day

Resident managers also look after repairs, fixing anything routine while they’re at work and giving them a day’s rent back if it doesn’t get fixed within 48 hours.

UNCLE is also offering the flexibility to change apartments and even locations regardless of where residents are in their lease, recognising the need for flexibility and freedom for young professionals.

The 120,000 sq ft Manchester project will create 171 studio and one-bedroom apartments, designed by award winning international interior design team DesignAgency. The building will also house a gym, art studio and co-working space, which will all be free to use by residents. It will be available for lettings from May 2017, with rents starting at £175 per week.

Ryan Prince, founder of UNCLE and principal of the Realstar Group, said: “The idea of renting is stuck in the dark ages. People spend a huge amount of their income on rent and then wait weeks for repairs to happen, have to put up with noisy neighbours and are faced with ridiculous sounding fees. With UNCLE, we’re making real promises to our customers, with consequences to us if we fail to deliver.

“By owning the whole building, not just a flat here and there, we have economies of scale which allow us to offer ‘one stop shopping’ for customers – we conduct the viewings, fix routine repairs, take parcels – and anything else that helps. This means we’re completely consumer focused, offering a truly different experience when it comes to renting, rather than having lots of different people involved in the chain. We want to be the landlord that’s got your back.

“We’re really excited to launch our inaugural UNCLE development in Manchester. The vibe in Manchester and the values of Mancunians really resonate with everything the UNCLE brand stands for. We’re bringing a fresh approach to renting in the City Centre which we hope will really appeal to our residents.”

UNCLE is owned by Realstar Group, a privately owned real estate investment and property management business, which came to the UK from Canada in 2002. The company acquired the site in Manchester City Centre in March 2016.

Following its launch in Manchester, UNCLE will be rebranding its two existing Realstar developments in London and will be completing construction of a third, with a total of 1,000 apartments across the two cities.
