Two people, a 23-year-old man and  a 47-year-old woman are in hospital with serious injuries after a vehicle smash in  Whalley Range which left the road closed for over nine hours late yesterday evening after the driver of a car fled from police

Police l stopped a Volkswagen Golf on Tarporley Avenue but as they  approached the car to speak to the driver, the vehicle drove off towards Wilbraham Road where it was involved in a collision with a Ford C Max and a single decker bus.

The driver of the Golf, a 23-year-old man, and the driver of the Ford, a 47-year-old woman,were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The road closures have since been lifted.

Currently no arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

Police Sergeant Lee Westhead, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is underway and enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

“We have specialist officers supporting the woman’s family at she receives treatment in hospital.

“The incident has been referred to GMP’s Professional Standards Branch who have notified the IOPC in line with normal policy.

“We are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to get in touch as soon as possible.”
