Two children have died after a stabbing incident in Southport this lunchtime,police have confirmed

Six other children are critically injured, and two adults have also been hurt after police and emergency services were called Hart Space Studios following reports of “multiple stabbings” just before midday

Police say children were attending a Taylor Swift dance event in Southport when the suspect entered the premises and starting stabbing the children

The adults that were injured were trying to save the children

Merseyside Police have announced that a 17 -year-old male has been arrested from the village of Banks in connection with murder and attempted murder and remains in police custody and will be questioned about the incident.

Police say he is originally from Cardiff

Police say that at this early stage, enquiries are ongoing to establish the motive for this tragic incident and are urging people not to speculate while the investigation is ongoing.

They have also confirmed that the incident is not currently being treated as terror-related and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

In a statement The North West Ambulance service has said that it has treated eight patients with stab injuries who have been taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Aintree University Hospital and Southport and Formby hospital.
