A 14-year-old boy is in hospital in a critical condition after being stabbed while answering the front door last night

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in police custody.

An investigation has been launched and a scene remains in place as officers carry out their work.

Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Davies from GMP’s City of Manchester district said: “This is a really sickening attack on a young boy which has left him in a critical condition in hospital.

“I would like to reassure the community that our investigation is progressing at a pace and this morning two people, a 15-year-old boy and a 41-year-old female, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

“Enquiries continue to piece together the full circumstances of what has occurred and who is involved in the attack. We believe this is a targeted attack and there is no risk to the wider public.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have been on or in the area of Stovell Avenue, Longsight at around 8pm
