Tributes have been paid to one of the faces of the Manchester music scene who has died suddenly at the age of 64

Rae Donaldson had worked at the Northern Quarter’s Vinyl Exchange for 30 years and previous to that at Eastern Bloc

Rae died suddenly on his way to work at Vinyl Exchange this morning on what was his 64th Birthday telling his friend Nicholas Royle that he was celebrating by going to work

John Robb posting on X said

“Sad to hear of the passing of Rae Donaldson – one of the faces of Manchester music scene who worked for decades in Vinyl Exchange records. Everyone knew Rae and spent hours laughing/arguing and talking music with him. He was also a Hulme neighbour.”

While the people at Piccadilly Records wrote

“We are all shocked and saddened to hear of the untimely passing of our friend and fellow music obsessive Rae Donaldson. Our thoughts are with his loved ones, friends and all the @vinylexchange family.

Another tribute said

“Chances are pretty much every Manc with a serious love of physical media will have been served by Rae Donaldson at Vinyl Exchange at some point in their life.A reassuring constant on Oldham Street for many years. Will feel strange not seeing him behind that counter again. RIP.
