The Executive at Trafford Council have approved plans to enter a further joint venture with property developer, Bruntwood, which could see around 900 new homes built across three sites in the borough.

In the last few years, the Council has established three joint ventures with Bruntwood, not least the transformative project to regenerate Stretford Mall, with the new King Street and public square due to open in 2025.

Now, Executive Members have approved a structure which could see new homes built by Bruntwood and Trafford Council across three sites, subject to planning permission, adding much-needed new housing for everyone in the borough. The plan is for the developments to be split into six stages: three in Stretford, two at Lumina Village and one in Altrincham’s Stamford Quarter.

The joint venture will allow Trafford Council closer control to the homes being built in the borough, allowing sustainability to be at the forefront of the new builds.

Councillor Liz Patel, Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration at Trafford Council, commented:

“I am pleased that our work with Bruntwood will continue to grow over the coming years. We have seen fantastic progress on the Stamford Quarter, Lumina Village and Stretford Mall projects which has secured transformational investment into our town centres and brought forward high quality, affordable housing on brownfield sites.

“Demand for housing in Trafford is high. The provision of new homes on a scale that will help tackle the housing crisis is a key priority, this new partnership will go some way to making sure we can deliver on those housing ambitions.”

Chris Roberts, Chief Development Officer at Bruntwood, said:

“Our ambitious plans in partnership with Trafford Council will continue to build on our success of creating thriving town centres across Greater Manchester.

“Trafford has a strong and historic identity, and this is something we want to celebrate and amplify throughout its residences by injecting life back into the heart of the local area. These new projects will redefine the purpose and value of community led living to encourage collaboration and create an inspiring backdrop for Trafford’s residents to live, work and socialise.”
