Oliver Carroll has been chosen as Conservative candidate to succeed Sir Graham Brady at the next election in the Altrincham and Sale West constituency

Carroll beat Greater Manchester Mayoral candidate Laura Evans in the race to be elected

Carroll,29, is a senior associate with ‘Magic Circle’ City of London international law firm Clifford Chance.

He attended Graham Brady’s old school, Altrincham Grammar School for Boys.

One local Conservative figure says he thinks the party has lost the seat by picking Oliver Carroll – “completely the wrong candidate”.

Meanwhile another source at selection says: “Those who voted for Carroll were older members who aren’t active and don’t campaign. Whereas those who voted for Laura Evans were the councillors, younger members and activists.” But Graham Brady tells me he’s “very good”.

Another source said that  Oliver Carroll “came across very strong and with clear ideas of what needs to be done”.
