Three Greater Manchester Labour MP’s defied their leader Jeremy Corbyn and voted against legislation in the Commons to allow the government to trigger Article 50.

Kate Green, Jeff Smith and Ann Coffey were amongst 52 Labour MP’s who voted against triggering the process to leave the EU on a night that saw nine proposed amendments  ranging from the rights of EU migrants to the opinions of the Gibraltar Government thrown out by MPs and then EU (Notification of Withdrawal) passed by 494 votes to 122 in its original, unamended form.

“I will be voting against Article 50. I am not going to be supporting the Tories in making the future worse for our children” Stockport’s Ann Coffey had announced last week, while Withington MP Smith had written that he was representing the will of his constituents  who had voted overwhelmingly to remain in Europe.
