Belle Vue’s mission to ruffle some feathers at the Abbey Stadium was well and truly accomplished after the Rentruck Aces took their second win in as many days, triumphing 41-49 over Swindon.

Riding high after their victory over Somerset just 24 hours earlier the men from Manchester began as they meant to go on against the CFS Filtration Robins, taking an emphatic early lead in Heat 2.

They further capitalised on their advantage with another 5-1, this time from guest Brady Kurtz and Steve Worrall, three races later, putting immense pressure on the hosts to respond in kind.

But Alun Rossiter’s side struggled to keep up with the reinvigorated Rentruck Aces, who went from strength to strength and established a 10-point lead with just two heats to go.

Kurtz, along with Heat 15 winner Dan Bewley, were the heroes for Belle Vue after their crucial 4-2 wrapped up the four Premiership points, a fact that team boss Mark Lemon was delighted with.

He said: “We came to Swindon with a goal in mind, to give ourselves the best opportunity to get back into play off contention and the boys have certainly given us such a chance with this result.

“We got an excellent start to the night which is always a good thing to build on. We stayed focused on our game plan and kept our attention away from what was going on across the pits.

“Everybody chipped in and did the job we expected. Dimitri [Bergé] had a few bike problems which we overcame and both Theo [Pjiper] and Brady [Kurtz] were hugely impressive guests.

“But we’re in no position to rest easy. The last two days have proved we have what it takes to put in the big performances that count and so we need to maintain the momentum we’ve generated.”

The game is on for the play offs with just four points separating the top five, and the Rentruck Aces hope to put three more on the board in their home meeting against Leicester on August 20.
