Due to popular demand, the Salford Rum Company is bringing us back to black for summer with the return of the limited edition Rum & Black – historically known as the drink of the dockworkers.
Fusing locally sourced blackcurrants with Salford’s smooth rum, the gorgeous new bottle is a must have for fans of the brand who love to collect the special editions. The fruity, delicious rum can be enjoyed over ice or in a variety of summer cocktails and serves, including the Black Spiced Mojito, created by Salford Rum’s chief bartender, Hendo.
Co-founder Tommy Gaughan said: “Over the years, our customers in Salford have told us amazing stories about their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents working on the docks. They’d tell us about the rums, spices and other imports from far flung places like the Caribbean. Time and time again they’d mention one serve as the one most loved by their family members and friends…Rum & Black.
Typically a blend of rum with blackcurrant cordial, Rum & Black was enjoyed down the working men’s clubs around the docks and throughout Salford throughout the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
Salford Rum & Black is made and produced with locally-sourced blackcurrants from The Promise Co, a family-rum urban homestead in Worsley, Manchester.
All of Salford Rum’s premium spiced rums were created as a passionate celebration of the history, heritage and people of Salford Docks in Greater Manchester. An era whereby the city’s Salford Docks grew to be the third largest port in the UK, the spirits take inspiration from the rums, fruits and spices from the Caribbean which were landing on British shores for the first time back in the late 1800’s.
Encased in highly collectible bottles designed by the iconic illustrator and artist, Dave Draws, famous for his intricate maps of northern towns and cities, the result is something very special; much like the city where these rums were born – famous for its iconic music and cultural scene – character prevails, along with great taste and a versatility and confidence that pleases rum lovers and experts alike.
Crafted at The Dirty Old Town Distillery in small batches, Salford Rum & Black (28% ABV, £42) is a strictly limited release and launches 8pm, Sunday 28th July at salfordrum.com
Summer serve – Black Spiced Mojito
In a Hi-Ball glass, add ice cubes and:
Fresh mint sprigs
30ml Salford Rum & Black
15ml Licor 43
15ml Lemon juice
15ml Cinnamon Syrup
Top with soda, and garnish with more mint sprigs and blackcurrants
