The Prime Minister’s plans for the day when she visited north-west England for a regional cabinet meeting back in January were left on a train from Manchester, sparking a terror alert.
According to the Mirror, the briefing note was found on the floor of a first-class carriage on a train heading to Edinburgh in January and identified details such as a private address where Theresa May was attending a dinner that evening in Altrincham as well as outlining plans for a call to Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
It was understood that a passenger on the train found them and handed them in.
Former royal bodyguard Inspector Ken Wharfe told the Mirror that leaving travel documents on a train was “inexcusable” and a “serious security breach”.
He said: “In today’s environment, it becomes a serious security matter when documents like this detailing the hourly movements of a protected person are misplaced. That’s just not acceptable.
