The Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has admitted that he did not know that the Home Secretary Suella Braverman had enlisted the help of civil servants over her speeding fine

The Sunday Times revealed that Braverman asked Home Office civil servants to help her avoid a speeding fine and points on her licence by arranging a private one-to-one driving awareness course

Asked during a press conference at the G7 summit in Hiroshima Sunak said that he didn’t “have the full details” and hadn’t spoken to her:

He added that he understands she’s expressed regret for speeding & accepted the penalty

Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper tweeted

“Not good enough Prime Minister. The Home Secretary is alleged to have tried to abuse her position to avoid a legal penalty.” adding

This is a pathetic Government response. You promised integrity, professionalism & accountability. Are you really too weak to even set up an investigation?
