Boutique video games developer and console porting specialist, Huey Games, has reported a 43 per cent growth in its revenue since 2018, and is on track to increase year-on-year revenue by 100% in 2021, while the business has almost doubled its headcount over the last six months.

Based in Manchester, Huey Games now employs seven members of staff and has recently added two new programmers to the team, James Easton and Joshua Riley, following their graduation last year from the University of Central Lancashire’s Computer Games Development course.

Recent successes for the business include the completion of three console projects – Radical Rabbit Stew, Silk and Switch ‘N’ Shoot – and a content build (digital artbook, dynamic theme and custom soundtrack app) for both the TV and Deluxe Edition bundles of Little Nightmares 2 on the PS4.

The team at Huey Games recently celebrated a milestone 40,000 sales for its popular Nintendo Switch port for The Mystery of Woolley Mountain, a Kickstarter funded adventure game originally developed for Mac and PC by Lightfoot Brothers. As a result, Huey has landed another porting deal with Bumble Bee Interactive to bring a new mobile version of the game to Android and iPhone later this year.

Current live projects for Huey Games this year include a collaboration on KeyWe, a new cooperative puzzler for PC and consoles under development by Stonewheat & Sons and Sold Out.  Huey is also continuing the development of its own original IP with the creation and development of puzzle platformer Mechinus and further development work for its multiple award-winning Wreckout*.

Rob Hewson, CEO of Huey Games, said: “We’re proud that Huey Games is remaining firmly in the category of small, high growth businesses; the very backbone of the UK’s economy.  This ongoing success is testament to our team’s great efforts and coming at a time when external conditions have been so tough, we’ve felt humbled that 2020 has been our most successful year to date.

“With a number of exciting projects in development and in the pipeline, we’re on track to have an even better 2021 which means further growth and recruitment to support and develop our growing roster of projects and clients.”
