In an interview with the Observer this morning the Health Secretary dismissed rumours that he had entered into a pact with Angela Rayner to become the next Labour leader and Prime Minister
Wes Streeting insisted that Kier Starmer has his full support – but refused to completely rule out ever running for leader.
He said: “I’m diplomatically ducking the question to avoid any more of the silly soap opera we’ve had in the last few months.”
As to his supposed pact with the former Deputy Leader, Streeting laughed it off saying he has only spoken to Rayner in the House of Commons lobby and joked with her that he had heard she was putting together a cabinet telling he quite fancied the job as Foreign Secretary
Rayner replied that it was old news and that she was going on I’m a Celebrity
In more serious matters Streeting said he would like the UK to join a customs union with the European Union something that Kier Starmer has rejected
“We’ve taken a massive economic hit leaving the European Union,” the health secretary said. “I’m really uncomfortable with the level of taxation in this country.
