Keir Starmer’s plan to design a peace proposal with Ukraine and France to present to the US will not be ‘derailed’ by Donald Trump’s decision to pause military aid, Angela Rayner has said.
The Greater Manchester MP and Deputy Prime Minister said earlier today that strategy to act as a ‘bridge’ between the US, Europe and Ukraine ‘won’t be derailed by the overnight announcements’.
‘He is laser-focussed on getting peace,’ she said, and would not be ‘blindsided or bounced from the focus of getting peace for Ukraine with those security guarantees’.
Pressed on giving her view on the White House’s announcement, she said that The prime minister will not conduct dialogue on open airwaves,”
The US has “consistently” said it wants peace in Ukraine, she adds, and says they are the “closest of allies”.
The UK’s prime minister “won’t choose between US and Europe” and he is working to bring the US to the table, she added
She also added that she thinks Russia’s President Vladimir Putin will see that “Europe is stepping up” on providing Ukraine more support.
