The Prime Minister has announced that four additional Typhoon jets are heading to Qatar

In a press conference this afternoon he warned that stranded Brits are unlikely to be back home soon although he added that 4000 had already returned

He said he will deploy Britain’s ‘military and diplomatic strength’ to protect our people saying that the longstanding British position is that there needs to be a negotiated settlement

He urged people to come together and warned against division over the events in the Middle East but pledged to “resist” pressure over how the UK responds to the escalating tensions with ‌Iran, defending what he described as Britain’s “level-headed” military approach.

He warned that the Middle East conflict “could continue for some time”

“So I want you to know: your Government is resolute in its response. We will do everything we can to protect British lives, uphold British values and safeguard the national interest”

He also insisted that there has been a lot of planning and predeployment in the Middle East

“But when Iran started attacking countries in the Gulf and the wider region the situation changes. These are allies of the UK where we have hundreds of thousands of people’
