The Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer has told the House of Commons that he will increase winter fuel tax threshold for poorer pensioners at as economy improves.

“We want to ensure that as we go forward, more pensioners are eligible for winter fuel payment” he told MP’s during Prime Minister’s Questions this lunchtime

“I recognise that people are still feeling the pressure of the cost of living crisis, including pensioners.

“As the economy improves, we want to make sure people feel those improvements in their days as their lives go forward, and that is why we want to ensure that… more pensioners are eligible for winter fuel payment.

The changes will probably be announced in the budget this autumn but would probably not come into effect until 2026
