Kier Starmer has said that Principle cannot be set aside  and that any decision about the future status of Greenland belongs to people of Greenland  and kingdom of Denmark alone

Calling an emergency press conference following US President Donald Trump’s announcement over the weekend that he would impose tariffs on those countries that have sent troops to Greenland

“Alliances endure because they’re built on respect and partnership, not pressure, that is why I said the use of tariffs against allies is completely wrong,” said the Prime Minister in a press conference this morning adding that a trade war is in no one’s interests

Starmer said that “Britain is a pragmatic country, we look for agreement, we believe in partnership”,  adding that “We will work with our allies, in Europe, across Nato and with the United States, we will keep dialogue open

Defending our relationship with the United States he said that  through sustained engagement we’ve seen significant US investment into UK economy… co-operation on defence, nuclear capability and intelligence remains as close and effective as anywhere in the world.

The Prime Minister said he did not believe that President Trump is truly considering military action in Greenland.

He concluded his speech by saying

“We will defend international law, and we will use the full strength of government at home and abroad to protect the security, living standards and future of the British people,
