The Prime Minister has pledged to end the “failed experiment in open borders” and declare that gaining the right to stay in Britain is a “privilege that must be earned, not a right.”

Speaking from Downing Street, Starmer said that he wanted to close a “squalid chapter” in our country’s history and promised that immigration numbers will fall

“We risk becoming an island of strangers, not a nation that walks forward together.” said Starmer adding that public cynicism about the failing immigration system is ‘slowly pulling our country apart’

Starmer said that between 2019-2023 while Tories were “telling people with a straight face that they would get net migration down”, it quadrupled.

Unfettered immigration risks Britain becoming “an island of strangers” he said  adding that the the current immigration system is “almost designed to permit abuse”

“When people come to this country they should actively commit to integration and learning our language”

We do have to ask why some sectors of our economy seem addicted to cheap labour”, he said  as he countered the economic argument that immigration boosts growth and improves living standards for all.
