What a week St Ann’s Hospice have had! Last week the hospice’s Facebook page was deleted. The reason, given if you can believe it was for ‘violating community standards due to adult nudity and sexual content’.

Of course, this was not the case as their hospice has never posted anything like this, and the images in question were of their amazing supporters walking and running to fundraise for them wearing shorts and vests!

But the community was right behind St Ann’s and the charity started rebuilding a new Facebook community and contacted the media with their problem. The Manchester Evening News came to the rescue in reaching out to Meta and getting the page back up and running – along with their nearly 18,000 followers.

Gemma Peers, Head of Communications at St Ann’s Hospice, says: “We are absolutely blown away by the support we have received from our wonderful Facebook community! We could not have done it without you!

“We would like to give a special thanks to the Manchester Evening News for getting our page back – what a relief.”

Now that the original page has been reinstated, St Ann’s are excited for their next challenge together with their supporters, as they work towards raising £1m towards their new hospice before Christmas.

Gemma said: “We are so glad we can now move on from the past week and work on our original Facebook page again We rely on our social media channels not only to spread the word about the incredible work being done at St Ann’s, but also to fundraise directly through Facebook fundraisers, which is why we were so devastated when the page was taken down.

“We are at a really important time of year for fundraising for the hospice, with our Light up a Life services coming up soon at the beginning of December and our Christmas appeal launching as well.

“Plus, we are at a really exciting stage for our plans to build a new hospice at Heald Green, with building work due to start in the new year. We are almost halfway to our milestone of raising £2m from our public fundraising appeal – Build it Together – to help fund this amazing new hospice for our patients and their loved ones.

“We have an amazing community of supporters who do so much for us, so we’d like to thank them and Manchester Evening News for bringing back our Facebook page.”
