The venue has launched the UK’s first official celebration of the Great British beer garden, with the inaugural National Beer Garden Day, which will take place on Thursday 22nd May 2025.
With one of the finest beer gardens in the country, tucked away by a secluded fountain in Manchester city centre, and powered by over 40 beer taps, Society has marked a brand new date in the annual calendar to honour the joy that the Great British beer garden has to offer. And the team will be bestowing a National Beer Garden Day Bar Tab* on the first person to visit on the big day. Head to the bar and say Happy National Beer Garden Day, and if you are the first to do it – the beer tab is yours!
National Beer Garden Day calls for people across the country to grab their mates, dates, family, or whoever they can find, to honour the return of lighter nights with a pint under a parasol. It’s the perfect opportunity to meet up with friends, support their local, and enjoy pints al fresco.
Whether you’re in Manchester or further afield, getting involved in the nation’s first beer garden celebration is easy – simply grab your nearest and dearest, head down to your favourite beer garden and enjoy a crisp glass of your preferred drink, whether it be a beer, cider, aperol or diet coke. Make sure to also share a picture of your visit via socials with the hashtag #NationalBeerGardenDay and Society Mcr will share your pics to their social media account.
Despite often being hailed as one of the UK’s rainiest cities, Manchester punters are also amongst the keenest beer garden dwellers in the country with the city crowned the second biggest and most favourable after London for outdoor drinking and dining And so Society thought it the perfect city to launch the first ever National Beer Garden Day.
Nick Gregory, co-founder of Society commented:
“We’ve always been blown away by how popular our beer garden is here in Manchester. It’s truly admirable to see how even the most fleeting sunshine brings our fantastic Society fans outside to enjoy their pints by the fountain! We love that about Manchester – people get their coats on and get on with it. We thought that spirit should be celebrated alongside the national endeavour of beer garden enjoyment and hence National Beer Garden Day was born. We’ll see you in the beer garden!”
The Great British love for sunny pub trips is no secret, with heatwaves seeing up to £30 million additional income for UK pubs (according to The British Beer and Pub Association). More than just a few picnic benches, a good beer garden offers a valued community space for people to come together, relax, and enjoy some much needed social-time in the fresh air and fleeting spells of sun.
Some new beer garden favourites that are currently pouring at Society to welcome the lighter nights include the Stargazer, a fruity and tangy Sour IPA, the Peach Cooler Shaker with peach, apricots and milk sugars, and a White Chocolate and Raspberry Stout which pours clear like a pale ale, but tastes like a full bodied and sweet stout with hints of white chocolate and berries. The beer garden has also recently had a revamp with additional tables and chairs and refreshed planters, tying the Society suntrap in with its natural surroundings by the Rochdale Canal Lake.
Society invites you to celebrate the new most important day of the year at the place that started it all – Society’s beer garden opening from 12pm.
