It’s the subject of much discussion – and more than a few arguments, but where is the best place to live in Manchester?
Well, a report from property data portal Property Detective has put an end to the debate, at least when it comes to raising a family: Wellington Drive in Worsley.
The report was based on the quality and availability of schools, nurseries and childcare providers; NCT groups; crime rates; population density; green spaces and a host of other factors to come up with a weighted and measured figure that was used to compile the Family Friendliness Index (FFI).
Users can log into propertydetective.com/family and enter their own postcode to see how their area, or areas they are looking to move to, score on the index.
“Traditionally, certain locations in Manchester get tagged as being ‘a great place for families’, without much consideration as to why they are deserving of such a title,” said Property Detective founder Barry Bridges.
“This really does show the importance of ‘location, location, location’; just 100 metres down the road you can find that adjacent streets score completely differently in terms of what they offer families. “
“People want different things from their neighbourhood but family friendliness is supremely important. Even if you don’t have children, the future resaleability of your property might be affected if the neighbourhood as a whole attracts parents or parents-to-be,” he added.
Worsley narrowly beat Atherton to top honours, although Commonside Road – also in Worsley – came in third. Honours also went to Higher Broughton, Withington and Denton.
