An international panel of experts have presented a report that raises ‘serious concerns’ over the conviction of baby serial killer Lucy Letby.
The former nurse is currently serving 15 whole-life orders for the murder of seven infants in her care after being convicted following a trial at Manchester Crown Court
Her Lawyers have revealed that they applied yesterday to the Criminal Cases Review Commission to investigate her case as a potential miscarriage of justice
At a press conference this morning Tory MP David Davis described the case as “one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in modern times”
Dr Shoo Lee,a retired neonatologist and president of the Canadian Neonatal Foundation said that there was no medical evidence to support malfeasance causing death or injury in any of the seventeen cases on trial and that the death or injury of the affected infants was due to natural causes or errors in medical care
He added that there were problems related to the medical care of patients at the Countess of Chester Hospitals neonatal clinic a long with problems related to teamwork and inter-disciplinary collaboration
“In summary, ladies and gentlemen, we did not find any murders.” “In all cases, death or injury were due to natural causes, or just bad medical care.” said Dr Shoo Lee
This is a breaking news story as the press conference continues
