The Security Minister Dan Jarvis has given a statement to the House of Commons following the arrest of Iranian Nationals by any terror police which included three arrests in Greater Manchester
Jarvis however refused to tell MPs if any of the Iranian men arrested tentered Britain illegally and also urged MPs not to speculate on the nature of the suspected attack plans.
He told the Commons that the two operations that took place across multiple locations this weekend were significant and complex.
“They were some of the largest counter state threats and counter-terrorism actions we have seen in recent times.”
The investigation, he added related to a suspected plot to target specific premises.
“Police officers have been in contact with the affected site to make them aware and provide relevant security advice and support. However, the police have also been clear that for reasons of operational security and public safety, they are not – and I am not – able to provide further information on the target at this time and I would urge Members not to speculate on the site.
During the debate following the statement Cheadle MP Tom Morrisson told MP’s
“This weekend’s terror arrest in Cheadle Hulme highlights a real threat. I met with members of our Jewish community on Sunday who no longer feel safe. I’ve called in Parliament for the IRGC to be proscribed as a terrorist group. It’s time the Government acts.“
