A 33 year old man remains in hospital and his injuries are described as serious after being attacked in Moston before being hit by a vehicle whilst being chased by a group of males.

A 31 year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of failing to stop following a road traffic collision and remains in custody for questioning.

A Section 60 has also been authorised across an area of Moston and Monsall, following this incident.

Detective Inspector Paddy Connell from our City of Manchester North district said; “This incident, we strongly believe is targeted, will understandably cause concern in Manchester and happened in a busy shopping area, so we know there are key witnesses that saw what happened unfold.’’

“I would urge those people to contact us as soon as possible whilst we continue to investigate at pace the circumstances that led to this incident.

“Officers remain in the area to offer reassurance going into the evening and across the weekend, and in addition to this we have authorised additional powers for the next 24 hours to be able to stop and search people within the area detailed in Moston and Monsall where the incident happened. This allows us to keep residents safe and challenge anyone we believe is intent on committing further violence.

“We are keen to add to the evidence we have already obtained, specifically around witness statements in confidence, dashcam footage and any CCTV available. Despite the short time passed, we are making early progress and are determined to find all those responsible.
