Police have brought in a section 60 authority in the Hollinwood and Limeside areas of Oldham following reports of a group of men brandishing bladed weapons in the area around Hollins Road.

There was also a report of a fight on Second Avenue in Oldham, although no injuries were reported.

Extra officers are currently patrolling the area for reassurance and to deter any further incidents.

Inspector Katherine Murray, from GMP’s Oldham district, said: “The section 60 has been put in place following reports of people with weapons acting in a threatening way in the area – officers can utilise the extra powers to stop-search individuals and hopefully ensure some potentially deadly weapons are taken off the streets.

“Our investigation is currently ongoing in relation to both incidents and we would like to reassure the public that we are putting extra resources into the area to relieve any possible tensions.
