A Salford housing association has made its first acquisition within a year of undergoing a stock transfer.
Salix Homes has struck a deal with housing association, The Riverside Group, to purchase 37 properties in the Swinton and Little Hulton areas of Salford.

The deal comes after Salix Homes took over ownership of more than 8,300 properties in Salford from Salford Council last March after tenants voted in favour of transfer.

The stock transfer unlocked £75million investment in homes and communities across the city and Salix Homes promised to bring every property up to the Government’s Decent Homes standard by 2020.
The properties have become available after The Riverside Group, which has 55,000 properties across the UK, undertook a stock rationalisation process in an effort to improve service delivery to its customers.
Salix Homes already owns a number of properties in the area on the nearby Beechfarm estate and is well placed to deliver housing services to residents.

Lee Sugden, chief executive at Salix Homes, said: “This acquisition marks a pivotal moment in the history of Salix Homes as a stand-alone registered provider, and we are very proud to be expanding our property portfolio within a year of transfer.

“We already own a number of properties in the Swinton area on the Beechfarm estate so we are in a strong position to deliver all aspects of our first class housing service to residents and look forward to welcoming our new tenants into the Salix Homes family.

“We are now almost 12 months into the delivery of our five-year, £75million investment programme and we remain dedicated to delivering excellent services, improving lives and communities and creating a housing service that Salford can be proud of.”

The new properties are a mix of two and three-bedroom terraced homes located on Long Street and Mount Street in Swinton, and Harrop Street in Little Hulton.

Simon Aldred, assistant director of finance at The Riverside Group, said: “Riverside set itself a corporate objective to reduce its footprint in areas where it has a limited presence.

“This stock transfer helps to achieve that objective whilst allowing the residents access to the provision of local service delivery. The transfer is the culmination of several months of negotiation and consultation.”
