The Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Councillor Gina Reynolds, has unveiled a 2024 calendar with all drawings by Salfordian Chelsea Davies, the appointed artist in residence for Salford Shopping Centre.
The calendar is full of iconic Salford landmarks including Salford Museum and Art Gallery, the historical Salford Shopping Centre Market and Salford Lads Club and costs £20 with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Ceremonial Mayor’s Charity Appeal. The three charities being supported this year by the Ceremonial Mayor’s Charity Appeal are St Ann’s Hospice, START and the Agnes Hopkins Community Centre.
Chelsea, a self taught artist who started painting during lockdown, was selected as the first artist in residence of the shopping centre after she produced a series of works of the city’s modern and historic iconic buildings, including Salford Shopping Centre. Her most notable painting is of Briar Hill Court with its red “Salford Shopping City” sign.
Born and raised in Salford, Chelsea said the following on the commission: “I’m so excited to have been chosen to work with the Mayor of Salford to create the fundraising calendar for 2024. What an honour for a proud Salfordian”
“The three charities chosen this year do such great work and I am happy to play even a small part in raising some much needed funds for them”
