The planned refugee flight to Rwanda which was scheduled to take off last night was grounded after the intervention of the European Court of Human Rights
The flight was stopped under the courts Rule 39, a real risk of inhuman and degrading treatment
Up to seven people had been expected to be removed to the east African country.
The Home Secretary Priti Patel said she was “disappointed” but added: “Preparation for the next flight begins now.”
The flight was cancelled after the plane’s engines had been started and cabin crew was seen boarding.
The ECHR’s ruling relating to one of the men, an Iraqi, stated he “should not be removed until the expiry of a period of three weeks following the delivery of the final domestic decision in the ongoing judicial review proceedings.”
