Housing providers that do not meet standards set by the Regulator of Social Housing will not receive any new funding from the Affordable Homes Programme (AHP) until improvements have been made.

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH), whom the coroner ruled were responsible for the death of two-year-old Awaab Ishak from prolonged exposure to mould last week will not now receive £1m of expected funding.

The government has said RBH will not get £1m in funding it had been set to receive from the fund, or receive any new AHP contracts, until it can “prove it is a responsible landlord”.

Housing Secretary Michael Gove described the move as a warning to others

Let this be a warning to other housing providers who are ignoring complaints and failing in their obligations to tenants. We will not hesitate to act. Everyone deserves the right to live in safe, decent home and this government will always act to protect tenants.”
