Revised plans have been submitted for the regeneration of the The Hotspur Press site in Manchester
The site was the scene of a devastating fire in June last year which resulted in the demolition of the historic mill building after it had been left as a charred remain
The site has already been earmarked for a high-rise student accommodation redevelopment scheme which had a number of critics
Now the developer, which put its original plans for the former mill, on hold following a fire has resubmitted a revised scheme which will see the construction of a brick building up to the fourth floor which it says replicates in detail the appearance and architecture of the mill
A 35 storey bronze student accommodation tower will then be built above.
The Hotspur Press and Percy Brothers [who turned it into a printing press in 1902] signs will also be remade and reinstated in original positions, the developer said.
Richard James, managing director of Manner, said:
“We are delighted to take this major step forward and submit our revised plans that will see the legacy of this iconic site continue. While the fire was a major setback for our ambitions for the site, we have worked closely with our design team to bring forward updated redevelopment plans for The Hotspur Press site.
