All ten Manchester boroughs will be carrying out parades and services over Remembrance weekend
In the City Centre,a Remembrance Sunday service will commemorate the men and women who have fought and gave their lives during their service in the armed forces. A gathering of civic dignitaries, servicemen and women, service and ex-service organisations, faith leaders, emergency services and other uniformed organisations will be invited to pay their respects and honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Details of all Salford’s Remembrance Sunday parades, services and wreath laying events taking place on Remembrance Sunday 10 November 2024 and on Armistice Day Monday 11 November 2024 are listed HERE
Events in Altrincham, Bowdon, Hale, Hale Barns, Partington, Sale, Stretford and Urmston will give people in Trafford the chance to remember the service men and women who gave their lives in both world wars and in more recent conflicts.
Those paying their respects at Stretford War Memorial are asked to be mindful that Man United play Leicester City at Old Trafford at 2pm that day, and that a diversion on Talbot Road will be in place to allow for the closure of Chester Road between the junctions of Talbot Road and Great Stone Road.
In Rochdale,Commemorations will be held on Sunday, 10 November 2024, with a number of services and parades taking place. Representatives from the Navy, Army and Royal Air Force will join veterans and civic dignitaries for parades in Rochdale, Castleton, Heywood, Littleborough, Middleton, Norden, Milnrow, and Wardle.
Tameside’s towns, villages and communities will again be holding services and ceremonies to remember those who fell in the two world wars and many other conflicts.
The Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Betty Affleck, said: “Even though it’s 110 years since the First World War started, and next year will be 80 since the Second World War ended, conflict has returned to Europe, the Middle East and elsewhere.
“For that reason, I believe it’s doubly important we remember not only the sacrifice of those who did their duty in past wars but also the men and women currently serving in UK forces across the world.
“I would strongly urge residents to pay their respects by attending one of the many services and ceremonies taking place across our borough.”
