Yesterday saw Neighbourhood Policing Team join forces with Immigration Compliance and Enforcement, Specialist Road Policing Officers and Force Intelligence Branch ran Operation Palos after concerns over the use of illegal e-bikes in the City Centre
The crackdown followed concerns about the Anti-Social use of Electronically powered bikes being used for food delivery purposes in and around the pedestrianised areas of the City Centre.
Throughout the day a large number of E-bikes were seized for destruction.
The riders of each bike have been spoken to and reported for various offences. 28 people were dealt with by Immigration Compliance and Enforcement Officers and arrest was made.
Valuable intelligence has been developed with regard to Organised Modern Slavery and Immigration crime say GMP
“We will not tolerate illegal and Anti-Social use of these bikes and City Centre officers will continue to take positive action around enforcement where necessary. Today’s Operation will hopefully send a message to the people that continue to flout the law, ride recklessly and prevent people from enjoying our City.” said a spokesperson adding
“We cannot mount such Operations without information and support from our community. This event is a direct result of people telling us what is negatively affecting their quality of life in the City. You Said, We Did.”
