Police are no longer treating as a murder investigation the body of a man found in a wooded area in Wythenshawe yesterday as a murder investigation

A Home Office post-mortem has taken place, and it has revealed that at this time there are no suspicion circumstances surrounding the death of the man.

A formal identification procedure will take place and his next-of-kin have been informed.

A man in his 40s who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder has been released under investigation.

Enquires are ongoing on behalf of the coroner.

Detective Superintendent David Moores of South Manchester district said: “I would like to pass on my condolences to the man who has sadly died and his family, our specially trained officers are supporting them at this time and have asked for privacy at this devastating time.

“Our investigating is still ongoing but from the information we have been passed, it appears that there was no foul play in the lead up to this man’s death and the man we had in custody has been released pending further investigations.

“We would also like to thank the community of Wythenshawe for their understanding and patience while we carried out our enquiries both yesterday and today, as this was obviously a concerning incident for those that live and work in that area.
