The Rail Investigation branch are to investigate an incident on Manchester’s tram network when a passenger was trapped in a door at Shudehill station

The incident took place in May when the passenger was dragged around 13 metres before falling onto the platform at Shudehill tram stop, after their bag became trapped in a departing tram’s closing doors.

They sustained injuries to their face and hand. The tram driver was unaware of the presence of the passenger when the tram departed from the tram stop.

The branch have undertaken a preliminary examination into the circumstances surrounding this incident. Having assessed the evidence which has been gathered to date, we have decided to publish a safety digest.
