London Concertante brings A Night at the Opera by Candlelight to the stunning setting of Manchester Cathedral on 22nd June 2025 at 7:30 PM.
This enchanting concert features a programme of iconic opera arias and overtures by Puccini, Verdi, Rossini, Mozart, and more—performed by the acclaimed chamber ensemble and three exceptional opera singers.
Set against the magical backdrop of hundreds of flickering candles, the evening includes beloved classics such as Puccini’s Nessun Dorma, Delibes’ Flower Duet, and Verdi’s La donna è mobile, alongside moving selections from Madame Butterfly, Turandot, Tosca, Carmen, and others.
Three magnificent voices:
Claire Wild (Soprano) has performed with leading opera companies, including Opera North, Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, and the Royal Opera House. She has a strong background in contemporary music and has premiered works with the Psappha Ensemble and Royal Opera House.
Rebecca Afonwy-Jones (Mezzo-soprano), this season made her debut with The Royal Ballet and Opera as Susie A Quiet Place, directed by Oliver Mears and conducted by Nicholas Chalmers. With the Royal Choral Society, she sang Dvorak’s Stabat Mater at Canterbury & Southwark Cathedrals and Handel’s Messiah, for Good Friday at The Royal Albert Hall, whilst with Ensemble Cymru, she will sing a programme including works by Rebecca Clarke, Frank Bridge and Brahms’ Two Songs for Voice, Viola and Piano.
Tenor Dominick Felix has performed with companies including Garsington Opera, Pegasus Opera, and Wexford Festival Opera. His recent roles include Gamekeeper (Rusalka), Rodriguez (Don Quichotte), and Mime (Das Rheingold) for English National Opera. He has also performed contemporary works, including roles in Battistelli’s Wake and Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District with Birmingham Opera.
Chris Grist, Artistic Director of London Concertante, commented: “We are thrilled to be performing at Manchester Cathedral, a truly stunning venue that enhances the experience of live classical music. This concert is a highlight of our season, and we are excited to share these incredible works with audiences in such an inspiring setting.
