One of the original cast members of Coronation Street has died at the age of 88
Philip Lowrie played Dennis Tanner in the soap and appeared in the very first episode of the show nearly 65 years ago.
He was the scampish son of Elsie Tanner and later husband of Rita.
Tributes posted on social media say he had great comic timing, and worked beautifully with Pat Phoenix and Barbara Knox.
“Dennis Tanner is without a doubt one of the best characters ever put to screen in Coronation Street. Lowrie’s energy of a giddy childlike charmer throughout his original and return stint made Dennis feel ageless. He will be sorely missed. RIP”
