Brand new quick-service pizza restaurant, Detroit Slims, has announced that its first venue is set to open at Circle Square on Oxford Road this Autumn – bringing a fresh & hot twist on quick-service Detroit-style pizza to the city centre.

The team behind Manchester’s beloved venues Ramona, Diecast, and The Firehouse has announced its latest venture, inspired by their love of Manchester’s ‘twin city’ in all but name, Detroit. Much like Manchester, the city is known for its working class culture and rich music scene, as well as its unique take on pizza.

The new concept is introducing a game changing approach to Detroit-style pizza, with 10” long rectangle shaped pizza to create the perfect quality takeaway option or speedy bite to eat-in, with prices starting from just £5. Each Slims pizza will be individually sized and baked fresh to order, featuring toppings such as the Cheese Burger Slim, BBQ Meat Feast and the Shroom Slim – with the standout signature The Pepperoni Crown. Each fab flavour combo will sit on top of Detroit Slims’ ultimate light and fluffy textured base, made from special 48-hour, slow-fermented focaccia dough.

The Slims will be complemented by a variety of house-made dips including Kimchi Mayo, Hot Honey and Dill + Jalapeño Ranch; plus a selection of mouth-watering sides including chicken tenders tossed in homemade cajun pepper and crispy scooper fries – the perfect base for scooping up those delicious dips.

Sweet-toothed visitors can also look forward to a range of indulgent thick “Slim Shaky” milkshakes, in a range of flavours including American fave Banoffee Pie and iconic Detroit-style ‘Bumpy Cake’ – a delicious vanilla, chocolate and butterscotch cake. There will be a selection of other desserts, including insane ice cream sandwiches, cookie trays and soft-serve ice creams.

To celebrate the opening, Detroit Slims is giving away 10,000 FREE pizzas* (over 23 American football pitches when lined up!) to the first people to sign up on the Detroit Slims newsletter here. Guests will receive a unique code for their free Slim during the first few weeks of opening.

Dan Mullen, Director at Detroit Slims, commented: “Detroit Slims has been in the works for a while now and we are so excited to finally introduce this new concept. Detroit has been a city close to our hearts since we first visited, so much so, we brought a piece of it back home when we opened Ramona in 2021. Detroit Slims is the newest iteration of our love for Detroit-style pizza! We’re so excited to finally introduce the Slims brand to our home city of Manchester, and eventually bring Detroit-style pizza to everyone UK-wide!”

Will Taplin, Executive Chef for Detroit Slims, commented: “We’re confident that everyone will love our pizza just as much as we do. All Detroit Slims pizzas will be completely homemade, made up of proper ingredients – making for high-quality fast food that will leave you feeling good. All of our bases will be made right here in the city, and eventually, as the brand grows, they will be shipped across the country to reach our other locations. There is nothing like Detroit Slims in the UK, and we’re ready to introduce ourselves with some proper American hospitality”

The new grab-and-go destination, set to enhance the diverse offerings along Oxford Road, spans a generous 1800 sq ft and will create over 25 new jobs in the city. Located just a 3 minute walk from Oxford Road Station within the Circle Square neighbourhood, guests will be able to eat-in at the 30 cover restaurant, takeaway or order on Deliveroo.

Circle Square, the landmark neighbourhood from Bruntwood SciTech and Vita Group, is in the heart of Manchester’s Oxford Road Corridor knowledge quarter adjacent to Oxford Road train station. With some of the most exciting retailers in the city based there, centred around the free-to-access Symphony Park, Detroit Slims will join the likes of Manchester-favourite Onda Pasta Bar, North Tap Room and Federal Cafe Bar.

Matt Pazos, Retail Commercial Manager for Bruntwood SciTech, shared: “Curating a broad range of restaurants, bars and retail venues for businesses and the general public to enjoy and explore has been crucial to realising our ambitious vision for Circle Square. We’re delighted to welcome Detroit Slims, whose team have already been so successful in the city, and this will be a great new offering for the Oxford Road Corridor knowledge quarter. Venues like theirs are what is truly bringing Circle Square to life.”

Looking ahead, the team plans to open another Detroit Slims location in Greater Manchester by the end of the year.
