Today’s King’s speech is to include legislation to start the process of bringing the railways back into public ownership and launch Great British Railways

It will also bring in legislation to reform the bus system to give greater powers to local authorities such as that already in progress in Greater Manchester

Ahead of the speech Sir Kier Starmer said “now is the time to take the brakes off Britain” and that “for too long people have been held back, their paths determined by where they came from.”

The speech is expected to include plans for 35 bills including give greater powers to local authorities to reform planning laws to speed up home and infrastructure building.

There is expected to be specific ban on spiking drinks; and the introduction of “Martyn’s Law” to force venues to make plans for the possibility of a terror attack
