The American Billionaire Elon Musk has attacked Labour MP Jess Phillips, the minister for safeguarding, saying that she “deserves to be in prison”
The attack followed reports by GB News that she had rejected calls for a public inquiry into Oldham grooming gangs.
Phillips had told Oldham Council that the government’s position was that the Home Office should not intervene and that an inquiry could be held at council level.
The council had voted to write to the Home Secretary Yvette Cooper requesting a formal Public Inquiry into Child Sexual Exploitation in the borough.
The council had also voted to commission an independent inquiry should the Home Office refuse their request.
“They oppose an inquiry, because it will show that those in power were complicit in the cover-up”, Musk wrote on X
Tory leader Kemi Badenoch joined the debate also writing on X
The time is long overdue for a full national inquiry into the rape gangs scandal.
Trials have taken place all over the country in recent years but no one in authority has joined the dots. 2025 must be the year that the victims start to get justice.
Musk continued the argument saying
“In the UK, serious crimes such as rape require the Crown Prosecution Service’s approval for the police to charge suspects. Who was the head of the CPS when rape gangs were allowed to exploit young girls without facing justice? Keir Starmer, 2008-2013. Who is the boss of Jess Phillips right now? Keir Starmer. The real reason she’s refusing to investigate the rape gangs is that it would obviously lead to the blaming of Keir Stamer (head of the CPS at the time).”
However Nazir Afzal who was chief prosecutor in the North West at the time accused Musk of trying to rewrite history writing on X
“Rewriting history doesn’t make it true
Under Starmer’s leadership we finally tackled these abuses, which had previously been handled poorly
He put me in charge,we brought 100s of offenders to justice & gave voice to 1000s of victims”
Meanwhile Oldham Council have attempted to defuse things saying they are already working on setting up its own inquiry at a local level and terms of reference will be agreed “in the coming months.”
