A Bill to introduce assisted dying in England & Wales will come before parliament this month giving MPs their first chance to vote on the controversial issue for almost a decade

The private members bill introduced by the Labour MP Kim Leadbeater would give terminally ill, eligible adults a choice to shorten their deaths and ensure stronger protections for them and loved ones in aftermath.

MP’s are expected to get the chance to vote on the issue before Xmas

In a post on X the MP said

“Life is precious. But so is choice. I have thought long & hard about this decision and believe the time is right for a respectful, compassionate & full debate on the right to a ‘Choice at the End of Life’ My Private Member’s Bill will enable that debate“

A You Gov poll suggested that 69% of Britons say the law should allow someone to assist the suicide of someone terminally ill – only 11% disagree
