The mother of one of the victims of the Manchester Arena terror attack has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List

Figen Murray, mother of Martyn Hett was recognised for her work in counter-terrorism.

She campaigned for what has become known as Martyn’s Law to step up security measures in public places and has recently graduated with a Master’s degree in counter-terrorism

Ms Murray who lives in Stockport tweeted

“Promoting peace is just as important to me as sorting Martyn’s Law. Reaching young people & talking to them about values such as kindness, forgiveness, tolerance, compassion & empathy is a big priority this year.” in reply to congratulations and best wishes on Twitter

The Home Secretary Priti Patel tweeted

“Delighted that the inspirational @FigenMurray receives an OBE for her tireless work with the Government to counter terrorism & her determined campaign for Martyn’s Law.”
