Morrissey has announced that he wants to sell his stake in his former band the Smiths
In a statement released on his website Morrissey Solo, the singer said he was:
“burnt out by any and all connections to Marr, Rourke, Joyce”, wants to sell all his business interests in The Smiths
“I would now like to live disassociated from those who wish me nothing but ill-will and destruction”
The deal for anyone wishing to buy would include the band’s name, artwork and his share in merchandise sales
He added that
“The songs are me – they are no one else – but they bring with them business communications that go to excessive lengths to create as much dread and spite year after year,” he continued. “I must now protect myself, especially my health
