Sir Kier Starmer and Deputy PM Angela Rayner are hosting Labour’s regional mayors including Greater Manchester’s Andy Burnham and one Tory Ben Houchen in Downing Street to promise more devolution and the start of “local growth plans.”

The new Prime Minister is expected to tell them the importance of pushing power out of Whitehall and how decision making can be taken away from Westminster

The local mayors will be asked in the meeting to identify local specialisms which could contribute to a “national industrial strategy”.

The Mayors,it is reported, will be required to draw up Local Growth Plans, which “identify growth sectors and the infrastructure they need to thrive”.

Angela Rayner said the new government is focused on “a full reset of our relationship with local government”.
