Two prominent billboards at Mayfield have been dressed with a technicolour message of thanks to front-line workers to raise awareness of a nation-wide charity art project.
The billboards at the corner of Fairfield Street and London Road, opposite Piccadilly Station, have been designed by artist Morag Myerscough and display a simple message: “Our super-heroes, we love you.”
Inspired by the public outpouring of gratitude and respect for NHS staff and everyone working to keep vital services running, the installation is part of Posters for the People – an initiative created by Laura Wellington of street art project In Good Company.
In Good Company has worked with a range of artists and designers to created vibrant banners and posters that people can buy to display in windows and gardens. All profits from the sale of the banners will go to eight charities chosen by the artists.
James Heather, development director for the Mayfield Partnership said: “We’ve worked with Morag on a number of public art projects and when we heard about her involvement in Posters for the People we wanted to show our support. It’s a message that everyone can get behind and we hope the striking designs will raise money for some important charities on the front line of the response to Covid-19.”
Morag Myerscough said: “I had no hesitation in agreeing to work with In Good Company on this project. At a time when we are all forced to stay indoors I think it’s really significant that Laura and her colleagues are still seeking to make art outdoors and to lift the spirits of those working so hard to keep us all safe.”

The billboards are located at the gateway to Mayfield, a 26-acre site next to Manchester Piccadilly station which is being transformed into a distinctive mixed-use neighbourhood, featuring homes, commercial space a new city centre public park.
